SALARY CALCULATOR DEFINITIONS ABOUT

About The AAPS Salary Survey And This Calculator

Since 1993, the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) has measured and reported salary and employment trend data as a service to its members. In addition to publishing current results in the AAPS Newsmagazine and making a full report available through the association web site (www.aaps.org), AAPS in 2006 commissioned initial development of this Interactive Salary Calculator web site.

This calculator is based on salary surveys conducted and reported for AAPS in 2015 and 2016 by Readex Research, an independent company. The functionality of this web site was also developed by Readex.

Sample Composition And Data Collection

Invitations to the web-based surveys were emailed in both 2015 and 2016 to all AAPS emailable members of all member types, domestic and international. In 2016, responses were received from 1,813 of the 8,622 invited; in 2014, 1,740 of 9,590.

Data as collected via the Internet for both years in the fall (October in 2015, December in 2016), with compensation values reported as of July 1 of that year. Complete details may be found in the full report.

About This Calculator

This salary calculator includes data from all U.S. respondents employed full-time (35 hours or more per week) and providing compensation information. By checking off boxes on the Salary Calculator page, the user can build a large number of different selection queries on this data - learning typical compensation for those holding a Doctorate and employed by a pharmaceutical manufacturer in California, for instance. Ranges can be built up (e.g., those with either <5 OR 5-9 years of experience) by checking more than one box for a given variable. Clicking INCLUDE ALL removes all filters for that variable.

When a selection is changed, the page immediately refreshes and shows four statistics for both the user's selection and for all reported members (the National Average, for comparison) on two measures: base annual salary, and total compensation (see Definitions). Results are displayed for both the current and the prior year, and the percentage change is calculated where possible.

Note that results are not displayed if fewer than 10 cases meet the selection criteria - if this happens, revise your selections by checking more boxes or INCLUDE ALL for variables of interest.
